Toyota has issued a recall for nearly 70,000 cars over an issue relating to 12.3-inch digital instrument clusters fitted to some variants.

Toyota said: “There is a possibility that the display can be blank when the vehicle starts and will remain in that state.”

The screen not only shows the vehicle gauges and messages, but is also responsible for hosting various essential warning and indicator lights. Toyota says the vehicles remain safe to drive, but the recall should be completed as soon as possible. The brand warns there are no symptoms to look out for, and the screen may not start at any time.

The brand said the fix requires the car to visit a dealer for a software update which will take 1 - 2.5 hours and will be provided free of charge to affected cars. The brand will be contacting owners if their vehicle is affected and their contact details are up-to-date.

Affected models include versions of the 2023-2024 C-HR Hybrid, 2024 Camry Hybrid, 2022-2024 Toyota Corolla (hatch, sedan, hybrid, non-hybrid, and GR), 2024 GR Yaris, 2022-2024 Kluger, 2022-2024 RAV4 (hybrid and non-hybrid) and 2022-2024 Corolla Cross.

Despite studying ancient history and law at university, it makes sense Tom ended up writing about cars, as he spent the majority of his waking hours finding ways to drive as many as possible. His fascination with automobiles was also accompanied by an affinity for technology growing up, and he is just as comfortable tinkering with gadgets as he is behind the wheel. His time at CarsGuide has given him a nose for industry news and developments at the forefront of car technology.
