Moving to the dark side! 2023 Suzuki Ignis Shadow Edition slinks in to spook Hyundai Venue and Mazda CX-3

The Shadow Edition gains a few styling tweaks but is based on the Ignis GLX.

Suzuki has gone to the dark side with a new Shadow Edition of its tiny Ignis light SUV.

The jacked-up city hatch is on sale now and sits at the top of the Ignis line-up.

The Shadow is priced from $27,990 drive-away, which is $4500 more than the drive-away price of the GL manual, and $1500 more than the auto-only GLX.

According to Suzuki Australia general manager, Michael Pachota, the Ignis Shadow Edition is now a permanent grade in the Ignis line-up, and the Vitara and Swift are also in line to get the Shadow treatment soon.

On top of standard gear in the GLX, the Shadow only adds dark visual styling cues, including black side decals, a black roof edge spoiler and Shadow badges.

Already standard in the Shadow is keyless entry and start, digital air conditioning, power windows, cruise control, a leather-covered steering wheel, a 7.0-inch touchscreen with sat-nav, voice command and Bluetooth connectivity, a four-speaker stereo and a reversing camera.

Under the bonnet is the same powertrain from all other Ignis grades - a 1.2-litre four-cylinder petrol engine delivering 66kW/120Nm, driving the front wheels only via a continuously variable transmission (CVT).

Just before Suzuki discontinued the Baleno light hatch, the carmaker launched a Shadow Edition of that model, but it is all but sold out in Australia now.

With the Baleno gone, the Ignis is the entry point to the Suzuki line-up, with the Swift GL hatchback starting from $24,990 drive-away.

The Shadow adds black side decals, a black roof edge spoiler and Shadow badges.

Despite its place in the popular light SUV segment, the Ignis was the second slowest selling Suzuki model in 2022, with 1878 units sold last year. Only the S-Cross found fewer homes - 360 to be precise.

The top-selling Suzuki in 2022 in Australia was the Baleno on 6124, followed by the Jimny on 5697.
