A group of UK enthusiasts have strapped a 600cc motorcycle engine to a mobility scooter, creating a quarter mile-eating weapon capable of trouncing a turbocharged Nissan Skyline GTS-T over 400m.
Dubbed the ‘Granborghini’, the scooter has lost its original electric heart in favour of a Suzuki GSX-600F sports bike engine, which can wind the four-wheeled scooter up to 163km/h over the quarter mile.
This is not the first motorcycle-powered mobility scooter we’ve seen though, with fellow Briton Colon Furze strapping a more modest 125cc engine to a similar machine to reach a top speed of 132km/h in 2010.
The Granborghini’s bigger donk meant that the original non-marking grey rear tyres had to go, and were replaced by a fat set of go-kart slicks for a scaled-down pro-street look.
Its builders also wisely stretched the wheelbase for high-speed stability, but their claimed overall top speed of over 224km/h gives credence to their title ‘Garage Insanity’.
It’s probably no longer welcome in your local IGA fruit and veg section, but the Granborghini is certain to get tongues wagging down at the bowls club.
