Peugeot Australia has introduced a limited-edition variant of its 308 GTi hot hatch, with the aptly named Sport now on sale from $42,990 plus on-road costs – $3000 less than the full-time model.

The Sport adds a front spoiler, extensions for the side skirts and rear bumper corners, and a rear diffuser and gurney flap, and metallic paintwork (Perla Nera Black, Artense Grey or Magnetic Blue), which represent a claimed $3500 of extra value in addition to the price reduction.

This package also includes a complementary $200 driver training course held by Driving Dynamics. While these are currently only held in Melbourne, they will soon expand to Sydney, Adelaide, Queensland and Western Australia.

However, buyers keen on the Sport’s additional equipment, sharper pricing and free driver training should get in quick as it is limited to just 20 examples.

No other upgrades are included with the Sport, meaning it's motivated by the standard 308 GTi’s 200kW/330Nm 1.6-litre turbo-petrol four-cylinder engine.

As a result, the 1205kg Sport can sprint from standstill to 100km/h in a claimed 6.0 seconds.

It is exclusively mated to a six-speed manual transmission that sends drive to the front wheels. This set-up is paired with a Torsen limited-slip differential.

Other standard equipment includes 19-inch alloy wheels, LED headlights, keyless entry and start, a 9.7-inch touchscreen multimedia system with voice control, sat nav, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support, and front sports seats with massaging functionality.

Advanced driver-assistance systems extend to lane-keep assist, blind-spot monitoring, high-beam assist, speed sign recognition, driver attention alert, park assist, and front and rear parking sensors.

Justin’s dad chose to miss his birth because he wanted to watch Peter Brock hopefully win Bathurst, so it figures Justin grew up to have a car obsession, too – and don’t worry, his dad did turn up in time after some stern words from his mum. That said, despite loving cars and writing, Justin chose to pursue career paths that didn’t lend themselves to automotive journalism, before eventually ending up working as a computer technician. But that car itch just couldn’t be scratched by his chipped Volkswagen Golf R (Mk7), so he finally decided to give into the inevitable and study a Master of Journalism at the same time. And even with the long odds, Justin was lucky enough to land a full-time job as a motoring journalist soon after graduating and the rest, as they say, is history. These days, Justin happily finds himself working at CarsGuide during the biggest period of change yet for the automotive industry, which is perhaps the most exciting part of all. In case you’re wondering, Justin begrudgingly sold the Golf R (sans chip) and still has plans to buy his dream car, an E46 BMW M3 coupe (manual, of course), but he is in desperate need of a second car space – or maybe a third.
