Volvo’s new Concept Estate design study has leaked online, ahead of its official unveiling in Geneva next week. Teased in a series of cloaked images by a Swedish raincoat company earlier this week, these new images give us our first full look at the new shooting brake concept.
Showcasing Volvo’s new SPA platform, the Concept Estate builds on the Coupe Concept and Coupe XC Concept that preceded it, and is effectively a wagon-tailed version of the two-door Coupe Concept shown at Frankfurt last year.
Drawing inspiration from the classic P1800E of the 1960s, the Concept Estate features a neatly tapered roofline, with slim b-pillars and muscular rear quarters. Unlike the P1800E and the similarly inspired C30 hatch though, the Concept Estate’s tailgate is shallower and not entirely glass.
This last detail is likely a result of the Concept Estate’s role in previewing a future five-door mainstream wagon –possibly V60 - though a production version is likely to extend the tailgate to the bottom of the load area for ease of loading. The Concept Estate’s interior is a retrimmed version of the Concept Coupe’s, but with an open cargo area and translucent boot floor.
