As one of the many dealerships dotted along the Scarborough Beach Rd commercial strip in Perth, the Osborne Park dealership places much importance on quality customer service and up-to-date staff training.

Dealer principal Henry Brown, who has held the top job for more than three years, said it was the workplace culture that really made the dealer stand out.

He quickly dispels any notion of "the old stereotypical car industry culture", and says workers are constantly trained, coached and mentored.

"We try to keep a stable workforce, a stable staff, and we do that through making the working environment just that little bit different, trying to do different things each day with the guys to break the monotony that can set in,'' he said.

"We're honest in our dealings with each other and with customers. We just really work on getting people to give 110 per cent and enjoy the benefits that come with that.''

And it appears the team that plays together stays together, with Lynford boasting a social-club membership of nearly 80 per cent of the staff.

With more than 50 staff, ranging from technicians and sales people to finance managers, Mr Brown said a variety of roles made up Lynford.

"Within the car industry, a dealership will probably offer you 90 per cent of the roles or career paths you could take," he said. "People have got defined job descriptions so everyone knows where they stand."

Workshop apprentices are encouraged to join, and Lynford usually has about five apprentices on the books at any one time.

"Giving young kids an opportunity to get a trade is always important, both for the community and for the business, so we look at putting on as many apprentices as the dealership can handle," Mr Brown said.

A great emphasis is placed on training and career progression. The company provides for employees to try out new roles or develop their skills in a particular area.
