Cupra started life in 2018 as European automaker Seat’s high-performance arm.
Production for the Formentor began shortly thereafter in 2020, with the young Spanish automaker producing a limited run of 7,000 vehicles.
Back then the Formentor VZ sported a 2.5-litre 5-cylinder petrol engine that it has since traded in for a punchy 2.0-litre 4-cylinder engine. It also offers a hybrid option called the eVZ, which Cupra says will deliver 58 km of pure-electric range.
Expect full electric in the near future!
The line-up currently starts at $51,990 for the Formentor V and ranges through to $67,990 for the range-topping Formentor VZE Tribe Edition Phev.
No matter the grade, the interior of the Formentor is sharply styled with crisp lines and a dashboard that features copper stitching and angular air vents. A black headliner and premium upholstery materials keeps the interior space feeling modern and fresh. Blue leather upholstery on the dashboard and seating is available on higher grades, as well as a sunroof. Some features can be optioned as a part of a pack.
The boot capacity for the Formentor V and VZx models is 420L, whereas the PHEV VZe model only has 345L of space. There are manual release levers in the boot for the rear seat and the middle seat has a ski-port door.
The Cupra Formentor is produced by Spanish automaker Cupra, the premium wing of Spanish automaker Seat. Both companies are owned by Volkswagen Group, with production of the Formentor taking place in Catalonia, Spain.
