Under the Arrow name conceived to replace the Imp, the vehicle was known as the Hillman Hunter when it launched here in 1967 as a rival for Ford’s Cortina and Holden’s Torana.
Without a larger model, Hillman had to split its gamble locally offering upper trim versions to also fight off the Ford Corsair and others.
It cut a similar shape to a scaled-down Valiant in Australia even including a slant to its four-cylinder engine as the big V sedan did with its ’six. It sold through until 1972 when it was eventually replaced by Chrysler’s 180/Centura.
The line-up currently starts at $1,710 for the Hunter (base) and ranges through to $3,630 for the range-topping Hunter (base).
IF THE repairs are minor, have them done and keep driving the car you clearly care about. If they cost $1000 or more, replace it with a newer car which will be safer than the old Hillman.
