The XUV700 is a front-wheel drive SUV from India carmaker Mahindra.
Known primarily for its tractors and knock about work vehicles, Mahindra entered the small-SUV segment with the XUV700 in 2023, offering a high level of luxury refinement at a price that took much of the car world by surprise.
As they assert themselves as a serious player in the global car market, expect to see much more from them.
The line-up currently starts at $36,990 for the XUV700 AX7 and ranges through to $43,990 for the range-topping XUV700 Black Edition.
The Mahindra XUV700 is a seven-seat SUV, with a standard pair of front seats, a second row of three along a bench seat with a 60/40 split fold, and a third row of two seats.
The smaller section of the second row can fold forward to allow easy access for the third row, and the third row can fold flat to allow for more luggage space when not in use.

The interior of the XUV700 is a combination of moden car technology with some more traditional and some slightly dated elements.
Synthetic leather seats, a sunroof and a touchscreen multimedia interface contrast with some hard scratchy plastics and older style climate controls - though physical buttons are a welcome sight.

The XUV700 has a pair of 10.25-inch screens, one a multimedia touchscreen and one a driver display, plus a sunroof, wireless phone charging pad (but wired phone mirroring), six speakers for its Sony sound system, LED headlights and taillights, cornering lights and 18-inch alloy wheels.
Mahindra doesn't quote a figure for boot space, but the slim space behind the third row appears to be around 200 litres, while the space with the third row folded down should be close to between 600 and 700 litres.
The Mahindra XUV700 has a turbocharged 2.0-litre four cylinder petrol engine driving the front wheels, with outputs of 149kW and 380Nm.
As the XUV700 is a seven-seat medium SUV with just 149kW, expect a 0-100km/h time of no quicker than 10 seconds under normal circumstances.

The XUV700's claimed 8.3L/100km fuel consumption figure means that, with its 60-litre fuel tank, it should hypothetically be able to travel a little more than 720km on a single fill. The XUV700 requires only minimum 91 RON petrol.
