Thanks to local dealership groups, the Victorian capital will have the honour of being the spot for Koenigsegg's only full-service outlet in Australia.

The dealership will be a partnership between Prodigy Automotive and Lorbek Luxury Cars, who will operate the dealership for local and New Zealand customers from Lorbek's Port Melbourne showroom.

Koenigsegg is the builder of some of the fastest and most technically advanced Supercars in the world. Created by Christian von Koenigsegg in 1994, its first production car (the 2002 CC8S) featured the most powerful production engine in the world.

Koenigsegg claims the current Agera RS is the holder of the highest speed achieved by a production vehicle, with the company recently posting a verified two-way average top speed of 447.19 km/h and a highest single-direction speed of 457.94 km/h during a series of runs on a public highway in Nevada.

That's just one of the five records the company set on that day.

Demand is already growing for the brand's next supercar, the currently unnamed Agera RS replacement which will debut at the 2019 Geneva motor show.

Lorbek and Prodigy will host an exclusive VIP launch in June that will be attended by Koenigsegg’s sales director - Andreas Petré - as well as a select group of high-end collectors and enthusiasts.

Growing up in Tasmania, car culture hardly surrounded Joel. But between Targa, the Australian Rally Championship and V8 Supercars there was enough to build Joel’s passion for all things automotive. Joel got his first big break covering the Australian Rally Championship in the mid 2000s.  His two biggest publishing accomplishments were for two publications which are no longer in print, first one photo published in Motorsport News in the mid ‘90s and then his first feature story published in Speed magazine in the mid 2000s, both from rally events.  He now combines that automotive passion every day in his photography and writing. The best car he’s owned to date was a 2005 Subaru Impreza WRX, with the sound of the boxer engine and handling causing him to yearn for another.  If he had the money, he would buy a Dodge Viper from the early ‘90s. Did someone say 8.0-litre V10?
