Launched in the early 1980s, the Porsche 944 was a development of the brand’s entry-level 924, which was its first front-engine rear-wheel drive water cooled vehicle.
Part of a series of front-engine rear drive Porsche models which leveraged VW Group resources to trim prices, the 944 was developed into the 968 before the series was eventually ended in favour of the Boxster in 1996 which served as an entry-level alternative to the long-lived 911 halo car.
The line-up currently starts at $11,770 for the 944 S2 and ranges through to $36,300 for the range-topping 944 Turbo.
I haven't heard of this problem before and I would suggest it's a result of age rather than anything else. Because it's intermittent it can be hard to trace, but I would be looking for a faulty connection, perhaps one that's corroded or loose. I would take it to an independent Porsche specialist, or an auto electrician.

THEY'LL happily run on unleaded without an additive. The valve seats are the same in the pre-'86 engines as those built after the introduction of unleaded fuel. But you will need to run 98-octane fuel if you want to get the best out of it.
