    Idle VT Commodore

    My sister and father both have VT Commodores, 1999 and 2000 respectively, and both cars suffer from the same problem in that they both will not idle properly and stall most of the time when they come to a stop. They have been to dealerships and local mechanics where plugs, leads and hoses have been changed or cleaned with little or no success. This has now been happening to varying degrees for both cars for the last two or three years. My father now comes to a stop by putting his car in neutral and riding the accelerator. Can you help?

    The idle mixture would appear to be incorrect. Check first for any possible vacuum leaks that might cause it to be lean and unstable at idle, also check the oxygen sensors and makes sure they are working correctly.
