Volvo S60 unwanted acceleration

When parking my 2003 Volvo S60 at Cumberland State Forest recently it suddenly accelerated forward and drove over the wooden log placed there to stop vehicles. As I drove into the parking spot, my foot was on the brake, the car slowed down and I was close to turning off the engine when suddenly it accelerated forward. I can only remember that I held tightly onto the steering wheel as the car accelerated into the bush, but I am very certain I did not have my foot on the accelerator before the incident. I had no reason to accelerate and there was no sudden situation that would cause me to mistakenly step on accelerator. What caused this incident?

It's hard to say what went wrong at the time of the incident, but   the only thing you can do it to have the vehicle checked by a   mechanic to ensure the accelerator is working correctly and that   there is nothing under the pedal that might have caused it to jam.   Volvo recalled S60s in the USA when they had problems with the accelerator system, and they recommended checking the throttle   position sensor and cleaning the throttle body.
