2023 Genesis G80 Electrified price and specs: Step aside, Tesla Model S!

The Genesis Electrified G80 will travel up to 520km on a single charge thanks to its large battery.

Genesis’ next electric car will rollout next month in the form of the Electrified G80, which tops the large luxury sedan line-up at a staggering $145,000 before on-road costs.

That makes the Electrified variant nearly $60,000 pricier than the entry-level G80 2.5T (from $85,191) and about 50 per cent more expensive than the G80 3.5T AWD (from $101,191).

However, while the more affordable G80s are fitted with turbocharged petrol engines that produce 224kW/422Nm and 279kW/530Nm respectively, the Electrified G80 does not emit a single tailpipe emission thanks to twin electric motors.

With one mounted on each axle, the Electrified G80 punches out 272kW/700Nm for a zero-to-100km/h acceleration run in just 4.9 seconds.

Fitted with an 87.2kWh battery pack, the all-electric Genesis sedan can travel up to 520km on a single charge, while its 350kW DC fast-charging capability can recoup from 10-80 per cent of the battery in as little as 22 minutes.

Also standard on the Electrified G80 is Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) functionality that lets the luxury limo power household appliances while on the go, as well as Active Noise Control-Road (ANC-R) noise cancelling technology for the cabin and Preview Electronic Control Suspension (Preview ECS) that uses the front cameras to adjust damping for a smoother ride.

As a cutting-edge EV, the new G80 is also fitted with regenerative braking, which can be adjusted using the steering wheel-mounted paddles, and a solar roof instead that replaces the panoramic sunroof.

Inside, the G80 flagship can be optioned in black, brown, blue or white colours, with recycled materials used throughout and Nappa leather on the seats.

Buyers will also find adjustable ambient lighting, second-row sunshades, tri-zone climate control, remote start, power-adjustable front seats, a heated steering wheel, heated front and rear outboard seats, and powered boot as standard.

Handling multimedia is a 14.5-inch screen with wireless smartphone charger, Android Auto/Apple CarPlay functionality, 19-speaker sound system and digital radio, while rear-seat passengers also have access to dual 9.2-inch screens to control some features.

In terms of safety, the G80 EV scores 10 airbags, blind-spot monitoring, driver attention alert, traffic sign recognition, forward collision warning, autonomous emergency braking with pedestrian and cyclist detection, lane keep assist, front and rear parking sensors, rear cross-traffic alert, safe exit assist, tyre pressure monitoring and a surround-view camera.

The only option available to Electrified G80 buyers is matte or exclusive paint for $2000.

The Genesis Electrified G80 will compete against the Porsche Taycan (from $158,100) and still-unavailable Tesla Model S, as well as the incoming Mercedes-Benz EQE and soon-to-launch, one-size-up BMW i7 – the latter will wear a pricetag double the Korean sedan at $298,900.

The Electrified G80 will join the GV70 Electrified mid-size SUV and GV60 crossover in Genesis’ electric vehicle push, with all models to land in local showrooms later this year.
