2024 Mazda BT-50 ute updated after sibling Isuzu D-Max, but when will it come to Australia?

Mazda Thailand revealed the updated ute, which hasn’t yet been mentioned by Mazda Australia.

Mazda has updated its BT-50 ute sibling to the Isuzu D-Max with some altered styling and interior tech updates.

The updated 2024 Mazda BT-50 now features black trim replacing chrome for all variants, as well as connectivity updates in the form of wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay via a new 7.0-inch touchscreen.

The BT-50 still uses the same engines as before, a choice of 1.9- or 3.0-litre turbo-diesel, four-cylinder units, with either six-speed automatic or manual transmission available in the latter here in Australia.

Along with styling changes including restyled bumpers, the BT-50 has also received some safety updates in Thailand that don’t quite match up to the standards Australian versions have. For example, Thai utes with six airbags fall short of the eight found in local BT-50s.

Interestingly, the update comes only a few months after the mechanical sibling to the BT-50, the Isuzu D-Max, was updated.

The press release for the BT-50 from Thailand is unlikely to perfectly match up to any local updates the BT-50 sees, so stay tuned to see what happens with the ute here in Australia.

While the BT-50 is built in Thailand for the Australian market, Mazda Australia hasn’t yet commented on the updated ute. CarsGuide has reached out to Mazda Australia for more information.

While the Mazda BT-50 has been pulled from sale in some markets like New Zealand and South Africa, it remains on sale in Australia and Thailand.

The brand hasn’t yet pointed to any likelihood that it will follow the related Isuzu D-Max into electrification, with Isuzu bringing a 48-volt-equipped and an electric version of its ute by the middle of the decade.
