Get rareR! The 2024 Volkswagen Golf R 333 hot hatch is one of the rarest and most powerful of its kind ever

All 333 units of the R 333 Limited Edition will be painted in Lime Yellow Metallic.

Volkswagen’s Golf R was given a special version to celebrate the two decades since an R badge (or R32, specifically) appeared on a Golf in Australia, but now it’s Germany’s turn to celebrate one of the most revered modern hot hatches.

The 2023 Volkswagen Golf R 333 is a car that lives up to its name in numerous ways, not least because only 333 will be built.

Word is that Volkswagen’s headquarters in Germany sent out the press release for the model at 3:33pm local time, too.

The model might sound a bit familiar to Australian Golf R fans, however, as one week ago Volkswagen Australia revealed its own version - the Golf R 20 Years edition.

The R 333 boasts a more powerful engine than the standard R, its 245kW measures 333 in metric horsepower (PS), with its 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine also making 420Nm - just like our R 20 Years.

A 4.6-second sprint to 100km/h, a set of black 19-inch 'Estoril' wheels, a titanium R Performance exhaust system from Akrapovič, and unique trim, badging, and numbering are all part of the 333 - just like the R 20 Years.

Hakim Halimi, Head of Product Marketing at Volkswagen R said the 333’s “extensive equipment” list means there’s no need for optional extras.

“The Golf R 333 is the first R model with a specification predefined by us that leaves no customer wishes regarding performance unfulfilled.”

The Golf R 333 is limited to 333 units.

All 333 of the special cars will be available for delivery in Germany in October this year, while a Wolfsburg customer event is planned for all buyers of the Golf R 333.

In Australia, the equivalent Golf R 20 Years can be ordered online through the VW Australia website from July 13 for a Q4 delivery. Only 50 will be sold.
