The current generation Kia Sorento is about to be given a sleek new look and a heavily updated interior, with the brand’s South Korean headquarters publishing some preliminary details of the next model year.
The 2024 Kia Sorento follows on from its current design but adopts more up-to-date elements and incorporates them into its familiar face, such as a pair of ‘T-shaped’ LED headlights and DRLs.
Aside from the narrowed lights and its new front end, the Sorento also scores a significant interior update, aimed at a tidier dash design headlined by a single-widescreen design for the driver and multimedia displays.
The ‘driver-centred environment’ is built around the two 12.3-inch screens, mounted in a curved arrangement, with physical climate controls still found underneath centred on the dash, and drive controls found near the gear selector.
The steering wheel retains its relatively simple control layout as usually used by Kia and its sibling brand Hyundai and Genesis, though the wheel trim now has coloured highlights.
Kia has also confirmed the drivetrains, petrol, diesel and hybrid, will all remain, with full details of the all-wheel drive versions of each to be announced globally in August and the front-wheel drive hybrid to come later once it’s certified.
A spokesperson for Kia Australia has confirmed to CarsGuide that the updated Sorento will arrive locally in Q4 this year with its drivetrains carrying over from those currently available, as well as the seven-seat layout.
Inside, the panoramic curved display with 12.3-inch cluster, as well as wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and Kia Connect are also confirmed for Australia.
This isn’t a huge surprise, given it makes Kia one of the best-selling players in the ‘Large SUV’ segment along with the likes of the Subaru Outback and other more off-road focused SUVs like the Toyota Prado and Isuzu MU-X.
Currently, the Sorento is available in Australia with a 3.5-litre petrol V6, a 2.2-litre turbo-diesel four, or a hybrid-assisted 1.6-litre turbo four as either traditional HEV or plug-in.
