Lotus Type 130 teased ahead of July reveal: will EV "hypercar" push Brit battler into the big leagues?

The new Lotus Type 130 will be revealed on July 16, with the Brit brand promising its new EV "hypercar" will be "the most dynamically accomplished road car in the company’s history."

And given Lotus' glorious history of producing stick-to-the-road metal (sometimes to the detriment of things like comfort or features) that's a mighty bold claim.

The Type 130 - which won't be it's final name, but rather points to the fact that just 130 examples will be sold to customers - is also the iconic brand's first all-new model in more than a decade. And boy are they coming out swinging, promising the Type 130 will be an "all-electric hypercar" that will be built in the company's Hethel, Norfolk, factory.

Other details remain thin on the ground for now. But news that the 71-year-old company is producing an all-new car - its first since the Evora in 2008 - is exciting news, let alone an EV designed to shake-up the supercar elite.
