Tesla founder Elon Musk has confirmed that right-hand drive deliveries of the all-electric Model 3 liftback will start in mid-2019.
In typical fashion, Mr Musk revealed via Twitter that the new EV will arrive in Australia a few months earlier than expected, in response to a tweet from user Martin Hungerford.
“I’ve noticed the delivery date on my Australian reservation has disappeared from the website. It was late 2019, any ideas on when Model 3s will be available in Aus,” Mr Hungerford tweeted, to which Mr Musk simply responded: “Around mid 2019”.
Another Twitter user then asked about UK deliveries, which Mr Musk replied to with one word; “Same”.
To hold the anticipation, Tesla showed the Model 3 to Australian customers with three left-hand drive units back in August of this year, however the local model will initially go on sale with a single middle-grade, rear-wheel drive, long-range variant.
It is still unclear how the Model 3 will be priced, though the current entry-model offered costs around $US50,000 ($A70,400) in the United States.
It has been a long wait for many customers, with some putting down $1500 deposits for the electric vehicle in March 2016, even before the car was officially revealed.
