The 40 TFSI is the top-spec Audi A1 in its three-variant range, wearing an MSRP of $46,450.

It is powered by a 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol engine producing 147kW/320Nm – significantly more than the other two variants in the range. The 40 TFSI sports a six-speed dual-clutch automatic rather than the seven-speed dual-clutch available with the other two variants.

The 40 TFSI has a claimed/combined fuel usage number of 6.4L/100km and requires a minimum of 95 RON premium petrol.

Don’t you think the A1 is a good looker? I do, and in the flesh, it manages to look even better. (40 TFSI pictured) Don’t you think the A1 is a good looker? I do, and in the flesh, it manages to look even better. (40 TFSI pictured)

Included on its standard specification is an 'S-line' exterior body package, 18-inch alloy wheels, LED headlights and tail-lights, dual-zone climate control, a 10.25-inch digital dashboard, a 10.1-inch multimedia touchscreen with Android Auto, digital radio, built in sat-nav, built-in Wi-Fi and wireless Apple CarPlay.

The 40 TFSI also gains performance upgrades like adaptive dampers with three modes and paddle shifters for controlling the transmission.

It is also the only A1 in the range that can be fitted with leather seat trim and a D-shaped steering wheel via the S-line interior package ($1100).

Safety features include auto emergency braking (AEB) lane keep assist (LKAS) with lane departure warning (LDW), six airbags and the expected stability and brake controls. Added to the 40 TFSI over the rest of the range is adaptive cruise control, enabled via the 'Premium Plus pack' ($2990) The A1 range will launch with a maximum five-star ANCAP safety rating.

Thanks to significantly expanded dimensions, the new A1 has a 335-litre boot (VDA) that is 65 litres more than the previous A1. The A1 does not feature a spare wheel, instead using a space-saving inflator kit.

Audi covers the new A1 range with a three-year/unlimited kilometre warranty, and the 40 TFSI requires servicing every 12 months or 15,000km

Service pricing can be bundled in at the time of purchase. The service bundles cost $1480 for three years or $1990 for five.
