More of a sports car than a muscle car, the Chevrolet Corvette has served as GM’s halo sports car product in various forms since 1953.

Originally a drop-top convertible, the Corvette has been sold as a lightweight coupe, and for the eighth-generation model, a mid-mounted sports car.

The line-up currently starts at $186,990 for the Corvette Stingray 2Lt and ranges through to $430,000 for the range-topping Corvette Z06 Bathurst 12 Hour Edition.

Chevrolet Corvette Engine

The 2026 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray is powered by a 6.2-litre ‘LT2’ V8 sending 369kW/637Nm to the rear wheels via an eight-speed dual-clutch auto transmission.

The E-Ray’s nose-mounted electric motor sends an extra 119kW/165Nm to the front wheels for all-wheel drive and a combined power output of 480kW/806Nm.

The track-focused Z06 is propelled by a 5.5-litre ‘LT6’ flat plane crank V8 producing 475kW/595Nm.

Chevrolet Corvette Accessories

The 2026 Corvette Stingray is available in two grades - 2LT and 3LT. At a minimum it features heated and ventilated eight-way power-adjustable, leather-trimmed seats, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, 14-speaker Bose audio, a front lift suspension system, multiple HD camera views, a head-up display, forged alloy wheels and a removable roof panel.

The hybrid E-Ray adds Nappa leather trimmed GT2 seats, Magnetic Selective Ride Control and extensive use of carbon-fibre on the body and interior of the car.

Chevrolet Corvette Speed

The 2026 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray accelerates from 0-100km/h in a claimed 3.4 seconds with a top speed of 295km/h.

The 2026 Chevrolet Corvette E-Ray hybrid accelerates from 0-100km/h in a claimed 2.9 seconds with a top speed of 312km/h.

The 2026 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 accelerates from 0-100km/h in a claimed 3.0 seconds with a top speed of 314km/h.

Chevrolet Corvette Interior

The interior of the 2026 Chevrolet Corvette is dominated by a driver-focused cockpit making no apologies for concentrating almost exclusively on the person behind the wheel. Multiple screens wrap around the instrument binnacle with the flat top and bottom steering wheel affording a clear view of them all. Headroom for anyone around 183cm tall is good and storage is generous for a car of this type.

Does the 2022 Chevrolet Corvette have any major problems?

The C8 Corvette (current model) is a fabulous piece of kit. It gives more or less supercar performance and handling for less than half the price of many established supercars, which makes it one of the all-time great motoring bargains.

As far as reliability goes, that will depend on the car’s history and whether it’s been maintained correctly. I’d also be a bit leery of car that has seen its share of track use (something the Corvette is otherwise very good at thanks to its performance envelope).

The 6.2-litre engine is a very well known quantity and is generally regarded as bulletproof. The only real question mark lies over the dual-clutch transmission, and some owners overseas have reported electronic and oil leak problems with the Corvette’s transmission. It’s worth mentioning, though, that our conditions don’t always match those of other countries, but the small number of Australian-delivered C8 Corvettes makes it hard to know how widespread these problems are.

Would I own one? In a heartbeat.

Camaro or Corvette coming to Australia?

We hear lots of speculation but nothing solid yet. If it happens it's most likely to be the Corvette, which will be easier to convert to right-hand drive. GM International boss Stefan Jacoby told CarsGuide's Joshua Dowling in January: "We will bring a true sports car to Australia for the brand Holden."

Bright idea for spark plugs

RUNNING a different fuel -- or even a cleaner through the engine regularly -- might well be a way of preventing the carbon build-up that leads to the problem with the plugs in the Ford V8. The problem is most people only realise there is a problem when the plugs break while being removed.
