My 2013 Hyundai i40 has a problem with the remote locking system. On three occasions I have been unable to use the remote keypad to unlock the car, the doors and boot remain locked. My Hyundai dealer told me the problem was due to electrical interference and that nothing could be done about it. It happens intermittently, and has been a problem at two different locations, one is a shopping centre that I visit weekly and most times the remote unlocks the car without any worries. I am now reluctant to drive my car at night now in case this problem occurs and I am stuck somewhere. Is this a common problem with Hyundai i40s?
We have more reports of this sort of problem from Hyundai owners than we do from owners of any other make, which suggests there could be something with Hyundais that causes it. It usually does come down to electrical interference from something in the area in which you park your car. Take a look around the car parks where the problem has occurred and check for antennas, which are the most likely source of the problem and park away from them. We'll pass your concerns on to Hyundai and ask them to check your car.
