The odd wheel out

I RECENTLY bought a Renault Clio Sport that's done only 14,000km and is still covered by the manufacturer's warranty. The car was delivered to the original owner with four 15-inch wheels with 195-50/15 tyres fitted, but with a 16-inch spare wheel fitted with a 195-45/16 tyre. As far as I can ascertain, 16-inch wheels were not available on this model in Australia, but European vehicles were delivered with them, so it seems this car may have been delivered with a European spare wheel. Renault Australia has declined to exchange the unused 16-inch wheel and tyre for a matching 15-inch item. Is it acceptable to run three 15-inch wheels with one 16-inch? If I fit the larger wheel and tyre to the front, what long-term effect would it have on the suspension or drive components?

NO, IT isn't acceptable to run different diameter wheels and I would recommend you don't do it. We contacted Renault Australia on your behalf and they said your car should have five wheels of the same size. They don't understand why the problem wasn't fixed under warranty. I suggest you return to your dealer with this information and ask for the odd-sized wheel to be replaced.
