Suzuki's baby boxy SUV has been unveiled ahead of its international launch next month, with fresh images of the fourth-generation Jimny dropping on the brand's international website.

Details remain a little scarce, but the international reveal does uncover a few important tidbits

For one, the new Jimny will be offered with eight colour variations, covering single colour and cool-looking two-tone shades. A single interior image focuses only on the front seats, revealing a simple setup headlined by a touchscreen multimedia unit, a thick dash-mounted grab handle and a set of chunky dials controlling the air-conditioning.

The interior, Suzuki says, is "straightforward and practical with down-to-earth beauty", but we'll let you make your own minds up on that.

The Jimny rides on a ladder frame, with a part-time 4WD system with a low-range system. It’s been an icon of cut-price ruggedness since its debut in 1970, so expect a new model to trade on-road comfort for off-road prowess. But what you can’t necessarily expect, though, is for the new Jimny to make its triumphant return to Australia.

“We can still not confirm whether New Jimny will be available for the Australian market. However, we are hopeful, with Suzuki Motor Corporation's recent reveal, our request for this vehicle will be confirmed soon,” says Suzuki Australia’s GM, Michael Pachota.

That said, we think it almost certainly will make an appearance here. And so readers, watch this space.

Andrew Chesterton should probably hate cars. From his hail-damaged Camira that looked like it had spent a hard life parked at the end of Tiger Woods' personal driving range, to the Nissan Pulsar Reebok that shook like it was possessed by a particularly mean-spirited demon every time he dared push past 40km/h, his personal car history isn't exactly littered with gold. But that seemingly endless procession of rust-savaged hate machines taught him something even more important; that cars are more than a collection of nuts, bolts and petrol. They're your ticket to freedom, a way to unlock incredible experiences, rolling invitations to incredible adventures. They have soul. And so, somehow, the car bug still bit. And it bit hard. When "Chesto" started his journalism career with News Ltd's Sunday and Daily Telegraph newspapers, he covered just about everything, from business to real estate, courts to crime, before settling into state political reporting at NSW Parliament House. But the automotive world's siren song soon sounded again, and he begged anyone who would listen for the opportunity to write about cars. Eventually they listened, and his career since has seen him filing car news, reviews and features for TopGear, Wheels, Motor and, of course, CarsGuide, as well as many, many others. More than a decade later, and the car bug is yet to relinquish its toothy grip. And if you ask Chesto, he thinks it never will.
