2021 Mitsubishi Triton pricing and specs detailed: Toyota HiLux, Ford Ranger, Isuzu D-Max, Mazda BT-50 and Nissan Navara rival gets update

The Triton range has been streamlined.

Mitsubishi Australia has updated the Triton ute for MY22, with its range streamlined and pricing increased alongside standard specification – with one exception.

Manual versions of the GLX and GLX-R 4x4 dual-cab pick-ups have been discontinued, while the ADAS package (autonomous emergency braking with pedestrian detection, lane departure warning and more) is now standard on the GLX 4x4 dual-cab pick-ups.

The automatic-only GLX-R dual-cab pick-up has become available in 4x2 (new) and 4x4 (carryover) variants, with it now featuring a body-colour Dynamic Shield and front bumper insert as well as a black finish for its 18-inch alloy wheels, side-mirror covers and handles.

That said, the automatic GSR 4x4 dual-cab pick-up no longer comes with surround-view cameras, although they can be reintroduced as part of the $1490 Tan Orange interior package.

As a result of the above, price rises of $250 to $1200 apply across the Triton range, although the automatic GSR 4x4 dual-cab pick-up has become $1250 more affordable due its feature reduction.

The Toyota HiLux, Ford Ranger, Isuzu D-Max, Mazda BT-50 and Nissan Navara rival therefore now starts from $23,740 plus on-road costs and reaches $52,240 (see full pricing table below).

For reference, the ute is available in single-, extra- and dual-cab body-styles with cab-chassis or pick-up configurations. It also comes with the option of a 4x2 or 4x4 drivetrain. Of note, not all combinations are available.

A 94kW/194Nm 2.4-litre naturally aspirated four-cylinder petrol engine exclusively powers the entry-level variant, which is mated to a five-speed manual.

Meanwhile, all other versions use a 133kW/430Nm 2.4-litre turbocharged diesel unit, which is matched to either a six-speed manual or a six-speed torque-converter automatic.

Justin’s dad chose to miss his birth because he wanted to watch Peter Brock hopefully win Bathurst, so it figures Justin grew up to have a car obsession, too – and don’t worry, his dad did turn up in time after some stern words from his mum. That said, despite loving cars and writing, Justin chose to pursue career paths that didn’t lend themselves to automotive journalism, before eventually ending up working as a computer technician. But that car itch just couldn’t be scratched by his chipped Volkswagen Golf R (Mk7), so he finally decided to give into the inevitable and study a Master of Journalism at the same time. And even with the long odds, Justin was lucky enough to land a full-time job as a motoring journalist soon after graduating and the rest, as they say, is history. These days, Justin happily finds himself working at CarsGuide during the biggest period of change yet for the automotive industry, which is perhaps the most exciting part of all. In case you’re wondering, Justin begrudgingly sold the Golf R (sans chip) and still has plans to buy his dream car, an E46 BMW M3 coupe (manual, of course), but he is in desperate need of a second car space – or maybe a third.
