Nissan Australia’s hotly-anticipated Z sports coupe will be available in two flavours when it hits local showrooms in the middle of next year, though one – the Z Proto Spec – will be a strictly limited-run grade.
Pricing however, is still to be confirmed, but recent speculation posits the base Nissan Z could start around $65,000 before on-road costs, meaning the top-spec Z Proto Spec could nudge over $70,000.
Powering both cars will be a 3.0-litre twin-turbo petrol V6, outputting 285kW/475Nm to the rear wheels, paired with a six-speed manual with rev matching as standard and available with a nine-speed automatic transmission as an option.

The former also scores an Exedy high-performance clutch and carbon-fibre composite drive shaft, while the latter features aluminium paddle shifters for manual controls.
Nissan is claiming around a 15 per cent quicker 0-100km/h acceleration time compared with the 370Z, which means the 2022 Z could hit the landmark time in 4.6 seconds, but the Japanese brand is still to confirm performance figures.
Instrumentation is presented across a digital 12.3-inch screen, with three modes available – Normal, Enhanced and Sport, each changing the display area to emphasis different driving data.
Handling multimedia duties is an 8.0-inh touchscreen with features including Apple CarPlay/Android Auto connectivity, Bluetooth support and satellite navigation.
The cabin of the two-seater is swathed in synthetic leather, while active noise cancellation and ‘active sound enhancement’ that will pipe in engine and exhaust noise “enhancing the natural driving soundtrack”, according to Nissan.
The Nissan Z will also sport a comprehensive suite of advanced safety systems, including autonomous emergency braking with pedestrian detection, forward collision warning, adaptive cruise control, front and rear parking sensors, blind spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and lane departure warning.

The Z Proto Spec meanwhile, opts for a look closer to the concept car that was first shown in September 2020, including the eye-catching Ikazuchi Yellow-coloured body and Super Black roof.
The 19-inch wheels are also finished in bronze like the Z Proto Concept, while yellow accents also make their way inside the cabin to contrast the predominately black leather interior.
Though limited in number, Nissan Australia is yet to divulge exactly how many will be on offer Down Under, while full details on pricing and specification will be announced closer to the Z’s launch in mid-2022.
