Ford has announced a new, simplified version of the Ranger with a focus on off-road capability, but don't rush to the dealership just yet.
Following the announcement of the 2023 Ford Ranger Wildtrak X for Australia, Ford of Britain has confirmed the same variant for the UK, as well as a new variant called the Tremor.
While the Wildtrak X takes the specification of the Wildtrak and adds more off-road tech and mechanicals to bridge the gap between Wildtrak and Raptor, the Tremor is based on the lower-spec Ranger XLT.
The Tremor still gets some of the same goodies as the Wildtrak X, including a new full-time all-wheel-drive system designed for driving off-road, revised suspension geometry, widened track, and Bilstein dampers.
Instead of the plush interior features of the Wildtrak X, the Tremor boasts a unique sports bar, twin front tow hooks, side steps, and grey trim to differentiate it.
Inside, standard vinyl trim and optional controls for features like winches and light bars are what make the Tremor more functional than premium.
Like the Wildtrak X in Australia, it's powered by Ford's 2.0-litre bi-turbo four-cylinder diesel engine (here making 150kW/500Nm) and paired only with the 10-speed automatic transmission seen in the rest of the range.

While nothing has been confirmed for Australia yet, the Blue Oval's local arm has had the Ranger Tremor name trademarked approved by the Australian Government since May 2022, while other Ranger-related names like FX4 and Wolftrak are also on the trademark list.
CarsGuide has contacted Ford Australia to find out if a Tremor-equivalent variant is destined for our shores, though a spokesperson wouldn't be drawn on any more future plans than have already been confirmed.
"Ford Australia is excited to expand our Ranger line-up locally with the arrival of Ranger Platinum and Ranger Wildtrak X later this year," Ford told CarsGuide.
"Ranger Tremor is an exciting new addition to the global Ranger line-up, as announced by Ford of Europe overnight. We have no news to share around Ranger Tremor for Australia right now."
