Chery’s new rugged four-wheel drive brand is taking off.
The Chinese maker has launched its Jetour brand in its home market with some wild performance figures.
Dubbed the Jetour Zongheng G700, the big burly off-roader will be followed by the F700 pick-up truck and G900 oversized 4WD.
The G700 will use plug-in hybrid power, with a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine paired with rear mounted electric motor to deliver a reported 560kW and 795Nm.
This same set-up will power the coming F700 ute.
The G900 really ramps up the performance with its range-extender propulsion producing 1172kW thanks to four electric motors, with one likely powering each wheel.

The company hasn’t quoted a torque figure, but it is expected to be off the charts as electric motors produce a mass of pulling power.
A range-extender works differently from a plug-in hybrid, as the petrol engine never drives the wheels but is used as a generator to the battery.
Nissan uses the same tech in its range of e-power hybrids but on a much smaller scale.

Both of Jetour’s plug-in and range-extender hybrid set-ups use 800-volt charging infrastructure with 6C charging capabilities.
This means it has ultra-fast charging ability with reports it can go from 20 to 80 per cent capacity in six minutes when plugged in to a charger capable of unleashing that amount of juice.
It is claimed the G700 can do tank turn, which allows the vehicle to do a 360-degree turn on the spot – and air suspension that can raise its ground clearance to 350mm, about 100mm more than your average 4x4.

The big 4Wd will have seating for six, with two seats in each row and it measure more than 5100mm long, which is bigger than a full-size Toyota LandCruiser 300 Series.
It is also packed with hi-tech features and luxury kit, with the Jetour brand aimed squarely at top-end 4WDs from Range Rover.
The soon to launch G900 has a wild feature that allows it to swim. It has a waterproof rating that allows it to be submerged without damage, but Jetour has added a special motor at the rear that will allow it to move through the water at a claimed 8.5km/h.

Chery has established a firm foothold in the Australian market and is bringing its Jaecoo luxury SUV brand Down Under later this year.
Chery Australia have previously told CarsGuide the Jetour brand isn’t currently on the cards as the vehicles are built for export markets yet, but didn’t rule out the vehicles coming in the future.
