Toyota’s Corolla Cross isn’t the cheapest hybrid small SUV on the market anymore now that GWM has introduced a new entry-level Lux variant to its Haval Jolion Hybrid range.
Starting at $36,990 drive-away, the Jolion Lux Hybrid pips the Corolla Cross’ $35,500 before on-road costs price, with the Toyota costing $39,921 drive-away for a GX Hybrid in Melbourne, for example.
The Lux slots in below the formerly lone Ultra variant, which is a $39,990 drive-away offering, and adopts the same specification as the purely petrol-powered Lux variant ($30,990 DA).
The Lux Hybrid does however get the same exterior treatment as the Ultra Hybrid, with the same grille and slightly smaller 17-inch wheels in the same design, plus blue trim on the headlights.
GWM says the first shipments of the Lux variant are “beginning to arrive and the brand new Jolion Lux Hybrid will be available in GWM showrooms nationally in coming weeks”.
It’s powered by the same drivetrain as the Ultra, a 1.5-litre four-cylinder petrol engine paired with a hybrid system in the transmission for a total output of 139kW and 375Nm.
GWM claims the Lux Hybrid can achieve a fuel efficiency figure of 5.0L/100km.
