Australia’s most popular people mover, the Kia Carnival, has been hit with a recall notice affecting thousands of units across all variants.
The model year 2024 Kia Carnival is the only year affected, according to the recall notice from the federal government's Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development, Communications and the Arts.
The specific defect for the Carnival is related to the power steering, which may be affected by a manufacturing fault in the wiring harness.
A total of 6155 units are affected, the notice says, which makes sense given the Carnival has a total 7633 sales in 2024 so far. It affects both the petrol and the hybrid (HEV) versions of the Carnival across all variants.
“The main wiring harness may come in contact with the steering column shaft and become damaged,” the notice says. “This may result in the loss of power assisted steering.”

“Owners of affected vehicles will be contacted in writing asking them to immediately schedule an appointment with their preferred Kia dealer to have the main wiring harness position adjusted or if required replaced, free of charge.”
A list of the VINs of cars affected is available at the Vehicle Recalls website or at Kia Australia’s recall info site, where owners are able to check the VIN of their specific vehicle.
