Price drop? BYD adjusts pricing for new Seal electric car to meet rebate limits in two states

BYD's newest model joins the Atto 3, one of the most popular electric cars in Australia.

Only two days after its sale launch, the BYD Seal electric car has undergone a pricing change.

There's one catch however - only one variant's price has dropped, and only by $50. The Performance AWD originally cost $68,798 before on-roads at launch on Tuesday evening, but is now $68,748.

Importantly, this means that for buyers in New South Wales and South Australia, the top-spec Seal electric car now qualifies for the two states' EV rebates for new electric cars purchased.

To qualify, new electric vehicles must cost less than $68,750 - it's unclear whether the original pricing was left $48 above this in error.

While the pricing change for most buyers won't make a huge difference, for buyers in NSW and SA it means an extra $3050 in the wallet, thanks to the $3000 rebates offered up by each government.

For reference, the base model Dynamic is priced from $49,888, and the mid-spec Premium starts at $58,798.

The Seal Dynamic makes 150kW/310Nm, the Premium 230kW/360Nm and the all-wheel Performance produces a huge 390kW/670Nm.

Deliveries of orders placed at the time of writing can be expected in December this year or January 2024 according to the BYD website, which also now displays the updated pricing.

Currently, customers are able to place a $1000 fully refundable deposit, with full payments to be made upon delivery - this means no one will have paid the previous above-rebate price.
