Renault Zoe 2020 revealed, confirmed for Australia

Renault has revealed its third-generation Zoe electric vehicle (EV), promising an increased driving range, more power and enhanced technology.

Exact details for the local market are still up in the air, however, Renault Australia told CarsGuide that it plans to bring the vehicle to market sometime next year.

The new Zoe – or Zoe Z.E. 50 – is equipped with a 52kWh battery to replace the 41kWh pack in the outgoing model.

A bigger battery means more range, with the French EV now capable of covering 390 kilometres between charges, based on the Worldwide Harmonised Light Vehicle Test Procedure (WLTP).

As standard, the new model carries over its 80kW motor, however, higher-spec grades feature a new 100kW/245Nm set-up which helps the vehicle sprint from zero to 100km/h in under 10 seconds and reach an increased top speed of 140km/h.

Both motors are equipped with a "B Mode" system, which intensifies the regenerative braking effect to improve efficiency and reduce the need for brake input.

Located behind the Renault diamond badge on the nose is a new combination charging port, which now allows for DC fast charging up to 50kW.

The new Zoe’s exterior has been treated to a minor makeover, sporting a more sculpted bonnet, redesigned bumpers, LED head- and tail-lights, chrome trim pieces as well as three new wheel options ranging from 15 to 17-inches.

Inside, a host of new materials have been used to help boost “premium appeal and comfort”, with soft touch plastics and sustainable trim finishes throughout. 

Now standard is a 10.0-inch TFT instrument cluster, LED interior lighting and Renault’s Easy Link multimedia system which is displayed on a 9.3-inch touchscreen, and supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

A new cabin design features eco-friendly materials, improved ergonomics and updated tech.

Furthermore, the new Zoe benefits from a standard electronic parking brake, a wireless smartphone charging option, added cupholders and extra USB sockets for rear passengers.

An improved electrical infrustructure enables a strong suite of standard driver assistance systems including Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB), lane departure warning, lane-keep assist, traffic sign recognition, blind spot monitoring and automatic high-beam.

While the Zoe has been on sale internationally since 2012, Renault’s local wing first introduced the nameplate in 2018, offering the vehicle in two grades; Life ($47,490 plus on-road costs) and Intens ($49,490).
