General Motors has never officially sold the Chevrolet Camaro in Australia - but that hasn't stopped speculation dating back 10 years, that it might be.
In 2008, the potential for the Camaro to come to Australia was high - the car shared the same platform as the Holden Commodore, thus right-hand drive conversion was feasible.
However, the intervention of the global financial crisis and the demise of the 'Zeta' platform that underpinned the car killed the project in 2009. Current Camaros are not built anywhere in the world in right-hand drive, so if GM's horsepower hero is to come down under, it won't be until 2020 at the very earliest.
We hear lots of speculation but nothing solid yet. If it happens it's most likely to be the Corvette, which will be easier to convert to right-hand drive. GM International boss Stefan Jacoby told CarsGuide's Joshua Dowling in January: "We will bring a true sports car to Australia for the brand Holden."
