The GWM Haval H7 first launched in China in 2015 as a mid-size SUV positioned above the smaller H6. It was built on the company’s unibody platform and aimed at families looking for more space and features. Some export markets also received the Haval H7, although it was not offered in Australia at the time. Early versions were powered by turbocharged petrol engines and focused on comfort over off-road ability.
The Haval H7 received a significant update in 2018 with refreshed styling and a more modern interior. Safety equipment and infotainment systems were improved to keep pace with rivals such as the Toyota RAV4 and Hyundai Tucson. In some overseas markets, the model was sold under slightly different names or configurations, but its role remained consistent as a practical SUV.
In 2024 the Haval H7 returned in its latest form, now wearing the GWM badge globally. The new generation introduced hybrid power for the first time and a sharper design that aligns with the brand’s other SUVs. While still not as well known as Japanese or Korean competitors, the Haval H7 has become part of GWM’s global growth strategy and a sign of how far Chinese brands have advanced in the mid-size SUV segment.
The line-up currently starts at $45,490 for the Haval H7 Vanta Hybrid (2Wd) and ranges through to $45,490 for the range-topping Haval H7 Vanta Hybrid (2Wd).
