    Lexus IS300

    In years gone by, the Lexus IS300 nameplate referred to a compact luxury sedan with a petrol V6 engine. The “300” was a reference to a 3.0-litre engine. But not anymore. In more recent times, Lexus rebadged the IS200t – a 2.0-litre turbo engine – to be the IS300. Something about the “300” part of the name worked wonders, according to the company’s marketing team. To confuse things a little further, though, the IS300 is also available as the IS300h, with a 2.5-litre petrol-electric hybrid drivetrain. If you still want a six-cylinder Lexus IS, you’ll have to look at the IS350.

    Lexus IS200 2002: Is it worth keeping my car is issues are starting to arise?

    That’s a difficult call to make. The car has done quite a few kilometres and is in the twilight of its life. If it’s been properly serviced all its life to date and you continue to service it well you should be able to keep on top of any issues that crop up. But at the same you should anticipate that problems might occur more often now, and that will involve more expense. Looking forward you need to decide if you want to gamble on it giving little or no trouble, or get out of it. If you are not sure about it get out of it now.

    Do trade-in valuations consider added options?

    The trade-in valuations generally don't take options into account, that's consider covered by the range that goes along with the valuation. The trade-in guide on your car is $28,000-$31,500. You should also remember that it's a guide only, and there's no reason why you shouldn't negotiate a better price, and to shop around to get the best price you can. You are better off buying a higher model with everything fitted to it than a lesser model and then optioning it up. It will always be the lesser model, no matter what's fitted to it.

    Mustang, 370Z, IS350F, 86 or MX-5?

    If you don’t want a convertible, which rules out the MX-5 as my easy first pick, then the 86 is the car for driving enjoyment on a reasonable budget. But don’t overlook its Subaru twin, the BRZ, which is my choice of the two. Both get The Tick, having shared our Car of the Year award.

    Lexus IS300 Accessories

    There's no range of accessories per se for the Lexus IS, but you can option the Enhancement Packs on Luxury and F Sport grades, which add a number of additional items. And you can also choose the interior colour you want, depending on the exterior paint you choose. The three interior colour options include black, dark rose (red) or ochre (brown/tan).

    Lexus IS300 Interior

    It hasn't changed as much as it should have. The brand has been pretty reserved with the enhancements in the cabin, though the new 10.3-inch touchscreen - which now sits 15cm closer - is finally equipped with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Still no wireless charging, no USB-C charging, and no head-up display. It's looking and feeling its age in here, and the back seat space and storage could be better too.

    Lexus IS300 Seats

    There are five seats in the Lexus IS, but only the F Sport models get full leather trim. The others are fake leather. That's cool in an eco-way, but maybe you really want cow hide. The fifth seat - the middle rear - is largely theoretical, too, as the back is pretty tight.
