The Focus topped the global registrations -- for the second consecutive year -- with 1,020,410 cars. Ford says the Focus success was driven by China and US markets, with China seeing a rise of 52 per cent and the US 40 per cent.
The Toyota Corolla was second with 872,774 registrations, followed by Ford’s F-Series pick-up (not sold here) in third with 785,630. The Fiesta sitting at sixth with 723,130 made it a hat-trick for Ford in the Top 10, while Toyota had a second winner with the Camry in fifth place with 729,793.
Honda also scored two Top 10 vehicles: the Honda Civic at number 9 with 651,159, followed by the CR-V with 624,982. Proof of China’s huge market showed with the Wuling Zhijuang coming in fourth with 768,870 registrations.
The giant Volkswagen group had only one in the Top 10, with the Golf hitting 699,148 to claim seventh place, while GM’s sole appearance was the Chevrolet Cruze at number eight with 661,325.
