Quad-turbo Mazda 323 is a tuner's wet dream

By Mitchell TulkMitchell Tulk

The humble Mazda 323 is usually the transport choice of oldies and isn’t exactly exciting to drive.

However, an American YouTube channel called Life OD has changed this by spicing up a BJ 323 sedan with four turbochargers.

Yes, you read that correctly.

The turbos are KO3s, which can be found on some Volkswagen and Audi models.

Welding metal pipes to the base of the manifold, the maniacs place the turbos on top.

Protruding from the engine bay the turbos aren't sequential, meaning one turbo per cylinder.

Only rubber piping - held together by duct tape and some couplings - feed boost back to the engine and amazingly it works.

If this wasn’t enough, they even add a shot of nitrous and after multiple burnouts the little four banger is still kicking.

Like the guy in the back, I'd also be looking for cover. (image credit: Life OD) Like the guy in the back, I'd also be looking for cover. (image credit: Life OD)

To test just how fast their Mazda is, the team take it to the track and race against an A60 Supra.

With no cooling system, minimal boost and a slipping clutch, we’ll let you guess which car wins the rolling drag race.

Is this the best DIY turbo project ever? Let us know in the comments.
