It's the LandCruiser every time if you're heading into the outback. The truck itself is just about bulletproof and gets The Tick from me. Toyota's service and support in the bush is legendary and could make all the difference if you strike trouble.

I WOULD not recommend the turbodiesel Patrol because of the high number of reports of engine failure, which leaves the two Toyotas. Both will do what you want, but I would go for the Prado because it's a little more civilised than the LandCruiser. I would also go for the diesel rather than the petrol V6 because I believe it will give you better fuel economy on your trip.

NO THERE won't be any adverse effect on your engine, and with sequential vapour injection you won't notice any difference in performance. You can use an upper cylinder lubricant for a little extra protection as LPG is drier and therefore harsher on valves and valve seats than unleaded petrol, but it's a precaution rather than a necessity. Running the engine on petrol once a week will prevent the seals in the fuel system from drying out and hardening.
