At the top of the 2022 Toyota RAV4 range is the Edge variant, which - this time around - is sold both with a petrol powertrain and a hybrid option.

The 2.5L four-cylinder petrol with all-wheel drive and an eight-speed auto is a carryover affair, with 152kW and 243Nm available.

But now there's also the choice of a 2.5L petrol-electric hybrid model with a CVT auto and AWD, just like all the other variants in the range. The powertrain is good for 163kW, but it also offers a big fuel efficiency advantage on paper - the hybrid uses 4.8L/100km, while the non-hybrid claims 6.7L/100km.

The 2.5L non-hybrid has a list price of $49,820, while the 2.5L hybrid version pushes this generation of RAV4 over the psychological barrier, with a $52,320 price tag.
