2024 Renault Kangoo E-Tech van priced to take on the Peugeot e-Partner in an electric van tussle

The Kangoo will land in February priced to compete with Peugeot’s similar-sized e-Partner.

A battle between two electric vans is on the cards - if such a thing is possible in these early days of commercial electrification.

Renault Australia has confirmed pricing and timing for the new Kangoo van, coming to Australia in electric-only E-Tech form to take on the Peugeot e-Partner

The 2024 Renault Kangoo E-Tech van brings the Kangoo name back to the Australian market in February 2024 (after an absence during 2023), with pricing set to start from $61,990 before on-road costs for the entry-level short wheelbase variant.

A long-wheelbase version will arrive “later in 2024”, priced from $63,990, with the same drivetrain and apparent claimed range as the short-wheelbase version.

Both vans use a 90kW/245Nm electric motor which draws power from a lithium-ion battery with a “fully usable” capacity of 45kWh, which Renault claims allows for a range of 285km. Renault says the battery, mounted underfloor, has no impact on the Kangoo’s 3.3m-cubed (SWB) or 4.2m-cubed (LWB) cargo space.

Renault says Eco mode, which “caps the vehicle's power output and top speed”, is the best way to get as much range out of the van as possible, though is “best used when carrying a light load”.

The Kangoo E-Tech is able to be charged at a maximum rate of 80kW with DC charging, which Renault says can juice the van up to a 170km range in 27 minutes, or to its full 285km range in 85 minutes.

For reference, the sole (long-wheelbase) variant for the Peugeot e-Partner starts from $59,990, has a 100kW/260Nm single motor and 50kWh lithium-ion battery, with a claimed 258km range and 100kW DC charging.

The Kangoo E-Tech van’s price tag being north of $60,000 puts it in the higher leagues of Renault’s pricing, with only the top-spec variants of the larger Trafic and Master vans - plus the Megane’s R.S hot hatch and E-Tech versions - priced higher.
