Green light for Red! 2023 Cupra Formentor VZx Rojo edition is available in any colour, as long as it's red

It’s the first time the Cupra Formentor VZx has been available in red, and only 30 are on the cards.

Cupra Australia has gone to great lengths to make sure at least one of its customers is happy with the specification offerings of its most popular model, the Cupra Formentor.

Volkswagen Group's Spanish brand has revealed a new limited-edition model based on the top variant of the SUV, called the Cupra Formentor VZx Rojo edition.

Starting from a $66,490 price point before on-road costs, or $71,490 drive-away, the Rojo edition is as it suggests to anyone familiar with the Spanish language: it's red.

It's the first time Cupra has offered the Formentor VZx in red, and it exists specifically due to strong demand from one customer in particular, Cupra says.

“A highly motivated customer has written to myself and Cupra’s global boss Wayne Griffiths over their disappointment that the Formentor VZx hasn’t been available in red,” said Cupra Australia director Ben Wilks.

“Well, your wish is our command.”

Only 30 Formentor Rojo editions will be available, which essentially means 29 were unspoken for at the limited model's inception.

In addition to the metallic red exterior, the Rojo features a black leather interior, also the first time this has been offered in a Formentor VZx.

As it's based on the VZx, the Rojo is about as highly specified as a Formentor gets - aside from its hot hatch-rivalling outputs of 228kW and 400Nm from a 2.0-litre turbo four-cylinder petrol engine, the Rojo comes with 19-inch black and copper-coloured alloy wheels, a panoramic sunroof, heated front seats, and a nine-speaker Beats sound system.

Orders for the Rojo are open now, with customer deliveries expected for May to June this year.
