Volkswagen Australia has bumped up prices for most of its models coming into 2023, with some new car prices increasing by as much as $1500.

The brand’s passenger models have all copped increases of at least $240 for the new year, with the smaller cars generally being the target of the smallest price bumps.

Volkswagen’s most popular model in Australia, the Tiguan, has been the target of increases ranging from $1100 to $1500, with the price changes becoming more significant higher in the variant range.

The entry Tiguan 110TSI Life in front-wheel-drive is now $45,490 before on-roads, up $1100. Most Tiguan variants have been given the same price increase treatment, though the R-Line in both petrol and diesel is up $1400, while the all-wheel drive Tiguan R is up by $1500 to top the range at $70,490.

Special editions like the Tiguan R Grid and Monochrome have managed to dodge price changes. This also goes for the Tiguan Allspace, where the Adventure and Monochrome editions avoid the $1100, $1200 and $1400 price increases.

The larger VW Touareg has a more consistent price change, all up $1250 to start at $89,240 for the 170TDI, up to $117,540 for the range-topping R-Line.

Luckily for hopeful buyers of VW’s smaller SUVs, the T-Cross Life is $30,990 before on-roads, only $240 more than before. The T-Cross Style us also up only marginally, by $290 to $33,490.

The T-Roc is now $500 more expensive than before, unless opting for the faster T-Roc R, now $60,300 after a $1000 price bump.

Out of the SUV space, all of Volkswagen’s passenger cars have had price increases.

The Polo and Golf, including the Wagon for the latter, are all up by $500 except for the R badges, which are up by $1000.

The Volkswagen Passat is up by $1000 across all variants, while the Arteon is now $1250 more expensive.

The Touareg has a more consistent price change, all up 50.

Volkswagen’s commercial vehicle range has been spared from the price changes for 2023.

In response to a CarsGuide query, a Volkswagen Australia spokesperson said although the price changes aren't associated with changes in specifications, the brand is continually working on ways to reduce the cost of ownership.

“Shipping costs certainly aren’t diminishing. For as long as possible we shield customers from associated price rises. We do not allow orders made prior to the designated increase date to be subject to an extra impost.

“We continue to work on local initiatives to help offset global price increases.”

As an example, Volkswagen Australia is offering three- to five-year free servicing on selected models that are available in showrooms now - the Tiguan Allspace 132TSI Life is the latest to benefit from this.
