Range Rover Review, For Sale, Colours, Models & Interior in Australia

The Range Rover can be credited with inventing the luxury 4x4 movement when the British-built wagon was launched in 1970, though it started life as a much more utilitarian two-door off-roader.

Morphing into a luxury four-door by 1981, the Rangie has survived and prospered through several changes of ownership and three generations to become one of the world's most recognised status symbols. Current prices range from $248,820 for the Range Rover D350 HSE SWB (258KW) to $443,436 for the Range Rover P615 SV LWB (452KW).

It extended its brand footprint with the launch of the smaller, more powerful Range Rover Sport in 2004, and followed it with the Victoria Beckham-'designed' compact Evoque in 2011. Now owned by Jaguar owners Tata, the Range Rover is more popular than ever.

Range Rover Q&As

Check out real-world situations relating to the Range Rover here, particularly what our experts have to say about them.

  • Trouble pressing the brakes in my 1999 Range Rover

Like most cars, the Range Rover has vacuum boosted brakes. This vacuum assistance helps you apply enough physical pressure to the brakes to pull the vehicle up. Without this assistance, the brakes require much more input from the driver. In many cases, this can make the pedal feel like it has gone hard or stiff.

The danger is that, in an emergency, you may not be able to apply enough pressure on the brake pedal quickly enough to avoid a crash. So this needs to be sorted immediately. A loss of brake assistance can be caused by a leak in the vacuum system or a failure of the booster unit itself.

  • Do you recommend Range Rovers?

They’re a luxury four-wheel drive and perform very well off road. The reliability is generally good, but expect parts and servicing to be higher than the average four-wheel drive. Without knowing what your needs and wants are it’s not possible to say if it’s an ideal purchase for you.
