The allroad is the nearest thing to an off-roader in Audi's A4 line-up, but what's it like as a city-and-suburbs daily driver and, better yet, what's it like when it's actually driven off the road? Will it get through soft sand? How does it cope with gravel roads and dirt tracks? These were just some of the questions we were keen to get answers to when we tested this allroad over seven days.

The Audi A4 sedan is a new and improved version of a classic shaped car, that's always delivered on style, and now it has better technology, too. It's not the typical family car but it certainly fits a family of four quite well and makes you feel good at the same time.

Audi has updated their A4 range and the Avant wagon did not miss out. New technology and an updated interior put the A4 Avant in line with the competition.

The allroad is the only vaguely off-road-focused variant of the A4, matching the wagon dimensions of the Avant a little extra ground clearance, some more rugged exterior styling and an off-road mode that uses the car’s traction and braking systems to deliver more off-road grip.This one costs $72,900, and gifts you a 2.0-litre turbo that will deliver 183kW and 370Nm, and a sprint to 100km/h in 6.1 seconds. It’s not lightning-fast, maybe, but the power feels plentiful for the nature of this A4.That engine pairs with a seven-speed S tronic auto, and thanks to quattro, you get AWD.
