First spied in Will Smith's 2004 sci-fi movie iRobot, Audi's futuristic two-seat, mid-engined sports car launched in 2006.
Designed to be a rolling example of Audi's best technology, the AWD rocketship was built in V10 and V8 form, as well as hardtop and open top styles. It spawned numerous special editions during its first generation, including the prototype electric e-Tron and 2010's 412kW R8 GT.
The second generation R8 launched in 2016, and the V8 was dropped in favour of a new V10 capable of 449kW in R8 V10 Plus spec. The R8 also shares much of its underpinnings with Lamborghini's Huracan sports car. Price range from $277,750 for the R8 V10 RWD up to $450,780 for the R8 V10 Spyder Performance Quattro.
Though the interior of the R8 supercar might look sparse and barren, Audi has opted for a paired-back aesthetic to keep drivers focused on the road ahead. Without a central multimedia screen or tacky HVAC controls, the dashboard is kept clean and simple. Leather and carbon-fibre trim feature throughout, as these images show.
The most expensive new Audi is the R8 Spyder Quattro Plus 4S, which is listed at $424,500. For more info on the latest models, check out our pricing and specs page, and you'll find all Audi reviews and news here.
