The 2017 BMW 520d carries a braked towing capacity of up to 2000 Kg, but check to ensure this applies to the configuration you're considering.
Both are 5-star rated by ANCAP, both have similar levels of tech features, but the Volvo S60 diesel is marginally better on fuel. As for look, that's in the eye of the beholder.

The mileage is at the lower end of the expected range for a 2008 model, so that's good, and assuming your description of its condition is accurate I would expect that you would get $23,000-$25,000 on a private sale.
