2015 SZII Ford Territory revealed | updated

As the roll-out of the final Falcon accelerates, Ford has issued first official picture of the last update for the Territory.

The restyled SUV star is revealed alongside the luxury contender in the Falcon line-up, the new G6E.

Both models reflect the thinking behind the update work on the XR8 performance hero, first seen in Carsguide last week, and XR6. They pick up the global DNA already mixed into the Fiesta, Focus, Mondeo and Mustang.

There is still no mechanical detail on the cars, as Ford is running its usual 'drip feed" program through social and mainstream media to try to build interest in the cars.

Despite giving a firm December 1 on-sale date for the Falcon, Ford Australia says only that the Territory will be in showrooms “later this year".

The Territory is a homegrown success story that took a personal visit from then-president of Ford Australia, the late Geoff Polites, to sell it to company brass in Detroit. More than 155,000 have been sold since it hit the road in 2004, although that total probably would have been higher had Ford had a diesel option earlier.

“It consistently ranks as one of the bestsellers in its class and, importantly for our customers, is the only Australian designed and engineered SUV," says Ford's Australia president Bob Graziano.

The G6E packs the new corporate nose as seen on the XRs, with more of the predictable brightwork used to advertise the arrival of a prestige car. “You can see it's a premium vehicle," says exterior designer Nima Nourian. “It's very well executed, down to the front fender vent."

Graziano is keen to position the updated Territory and Falcon in new-model plans: 'We've only just started. Among the vehicles arriving next year are the iconic Ford Mustang, all-new Mondeo and Everest SUV."
