GWM has revealed pricing and spec for its updated Jolion small SUV range in Australia.
Still starting at a keen price of $26,990, drive-away, the Jolion range, now split into two body styles, sees significant changes.
The purely combustion variants remain powered by a 1.5-litre four-cylinder, turbo-petrol engine (producing 105kW/210Nm) mated to a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission, driving the front wheels only.
Importantly, the combustion car maintains the same traditional small SUV body (albeit with significant aesthetic tweaks) and has been culled down to just two variants, the Premium and Luxury, with the more powerful direct-injection S grade, and the spec-leading Ultra grade both having been discontinued.
Meanwhile, the hybrid Jolion range expands, adding a new Premium grade variant, and it swaps into a new sportier body with a cropped hatch rear. It carries over the same drivetrain from the previous hybrid range, a 1.5-litre four-cylinder engine paired with a hybrid transaxle (dubbed the ‘Dedicated Hybrid Transmission’ or ‘DHT’ in short) for a plug-less system which produces a combined 140kW/375Nm.

Both cars get new design highlights, including a bar-type grille replacing the mesh style on the outgoing car, redesigned front and rear splitters, tweaked DRLs and rear light fittings, as well as more paired back badgework across the rear, with the enormous ‘Haval’ letterwork having been swapped out for the more minimalist ‘GWM’.
CarsGuide understands the more paired back badgework will continue to be deployed across the range thanks to feedback from export markets, and a move to have more recognition for the GWM parent marque of the Haval, Tank, and Cannon brands which sit underneath it.

Overseas, the new hybrid variant is known as the Jolion Pro, and while this will be reflected in the rear badgework of the new hybrid variants, the brand says it will simply be referred to as the ‘Jolion Hybrid’ in Australia.
The hybrid’s new bodystyle includes a more hatchback-style rear rather than the upright tailgate of the combustion SUV, and comes complete with more aggressive diffusers front and rear, plastic overfenders and a spoiler fixture atop the boot. It also gets a more contemporary light bar fitting across its rear hatch.
The interior is more or less identical to the outgoing car, continuing to offer either cloth or synthetic leather interior trim, either a 10.25- or 12.3-inch multimedia screen depending on trim level with wired Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, a 7.0-inch digital instrument cluster on all grades aside from the base combustion car which gets a 3.5-inch TFT, and either halogen or LED headlights depending on grade, and 17- or 18-inch alloys, again depending on grade.

With the new body style comes a difference in boot space between the hybrid and combustion cars, with the hybrid now offering a cropped 255 litres and the combustion car offering 337 litres. Both cars maintain a towing capacity of 750kg unbraked with the combustion car able to tow 1500kg braked and the hybrid able to tow 1300kg braked.
The combustion car has an official fuel consumption of 8.1L/100km, while the hybrid trims this down to just 5.1L/100km.

All grades get a relatively high degree of standard safety equipment including auto emergency braking, lane-keep assist, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, traffic sign recognition, traffic jam assist and a tyre pressure monitoring system. A reversing camera is standard, with 360-degree view available on the mid Lux grade and above.
All GWM products are covered by a seven-year, unlimited kilometre warranty, with five years of roadside assist and five years of capped price servicing.
