Audi Australia confirms 2024 Q4 e-tron as next electric car to lure buyers away from Tesla Model Y, BMW iX3 and Mercedes EQC

The Audi Q4 e-tron will arrive in Australia around the middle of next year.

Audi Australia has officially confirmed its next electric car in the form of the Q4 e-tron that was refreshed overnight in Europe.

Due in Australia around the middle of 2024, the Q4 e-tron will sit below the Q8 e-tron and e-tron GT as a new entry to the German brand’s all-electric offerings.

Though the Q4 e-tron has been available in overseas markets since 2021, Australia will receive the revamped version that boasts an increase to efficiency and range.

The variant line-up however is still a little unclear for Australia, but Europe has access to two powertrain options (45 and 55) across two body styles (wagon and Sportback).

The entry-level Q4 e-tron produces 210kW from a single electric motor driving the rear wheels, but is also available as a quattro all-wheel-drive version.

Meanwhile, the top-spec 55 is available exclusively with quattro all-wheel drive, and has an output of 250kW

With a 77kWh battery, the more aerodynamically optimised Sportback will travel up to 546km before needing a recharge.

Acceleration times from 0-100km/h range from 5.4 seconds in the 55, up to 6.7s in the rear-drive 45.

Recharging is also improved for the new model, with 175kW DC fast charging capabilities (up from the previous version’s 135kW maximum) that cuts the 20-80 per cent charge time to around 28 minutes.

Other changes to the 2024 Q4 e-tron include a revised suspension tune for better “balance and even greater comfort, driving fun and stability”, according to Audi.

Audi is yet to share details on pricing and spec, but as a premium all-electric small-to-mid-size SUV, the Q4 e-tron competes against the Volvo XC40, and slightly larger fare like the Mercedes-Benz EQC and BMW iX3, which are priced from $126,675 before on-road costs and $104,900 respectively.

And for reference, the top-selling electric car in Australia currently is the Tesla Model Y, which starts from $65,400 and extends to $92,560 for the top-spec Performance variant.
