Move over Kia and Mitsubishi, MG is the new Australian car warranty king.

The Chinese brand has announced it is fully guaranteeing its vehicles for 10 years/250,000km, which trumps all other new car warranties.

Mitsubishi is the only other car brand that has a 10 year warranty, but it is contingent on you servicing your vehicle at a Mitsubishi dealer every time or it reverts back to five years.

The new warranty also applies to the brand’s electric cars such as the MG4, which leaves the four-year Tesla warranty in the shade.

MG Australia’s Chief Commercial Officer Giles Belcher, said: “From August, every new MG vehicle purchased in Australia, from the MG3 to the HS, MG4 and more will be covered by what we believe is the best factory warranty in the business.”

"If you’re looking for value and peace of mind from a new car purchase, the length and quality of the factory warranty should be as important as the horsepower.

"We are listening to our customers. We do think a longer warranty is more attractive, and it also reiterates trust in our cars," said Belcher.

As the price of new cars go up, ownership benefits are becoming the new battle ground for mainstream cars.

In less than a decade the average new car warranty has been beefed up from three years to five at a minimum, but many are now offering seven-year warranties as a way to boost sales for short periods or for the foreseeable.

MG has been on a tear in the past five years and has cemented itself as a top 10 brand and the new warranty could help it challenge big name players such as Mitsubishi and Hyundai for total sales.

MG has just launched the new MG3 small hatchback, which now comes with hybrid power. It will be joined by the electric Cyberster roadster, new S mid-size SUV and the new MG7 mid-size sedan and an as yet unnamed seven-seat SUV in the next 12 months.

The new version of the best selling ZS small SUV is just around the corner, too.
